When the original Is Chrysler 300 A Good Car was launched from the mid-80s, it established the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) because we understand it today, a vehicle with eight or seven chairs that drives just like a car. It had been such a hit that it sent all car manufacturers, including the Japanese and Europeansback to the drawing boards to come up with their own MPV versions.

Twenty five years on, using almost every carmaker having its own interpretation of this Voyager, Chrysler has needed to continually upgrade its MPVs to keep a lead in the section that it created. The present Grand Voyager is that inaugural version and was launched in the late 90s. It had an exterior facelift a couple of years back, and this year it gets the revolutionary'Stow n Go' chairs.

Flexibility has always been crucial to the allure of the MPV, but removing the chairs and finding a place to store it is a problem, particularly in the Asian markets where people do not often have garages. Ahead of'Stow n Go', the Grand Voyager had small castors beneath their chairs so they could be wheeled about, however they were still incredibly heavy to lift out of their car.  The remedy is for chairs that don't need to be raised out, but totally disappear into the ground.

Actually, the vanishing third row seat is not a new idea the original'96 Honda Odyssey needed a third row seat that folded and turned into a well in the ground, along with the Voyager adopts this idea. Nonetheless, it is the fold of the second row seats that's particularly clever. After five easy steps, along with the tugging of many tabs and straps, the entire seat literally disappears into the ground with no trace. This is all the more impressive since the seat modification functions aren't compromised when upright, it could both recline and slide.

The trick of course, would be to get a seat which folds into as compact a bundle as you can, and this is accomplished by using swab and backrest of equal length. This ends in a rather low backrest for an otherwise comfortable seat. This means that for many adults, so the headrest has to be raised to prevent it from cutting into the middle of the backs.

The mechanicals of the Grand Voyager remain largely unchanged with a torquey 3.3-litre V6 making it seem well-powered and comfy. Cruising is very effortless in the Chrysler, and there's an impressive lack of street - or engine-noise. It's also very well-equipped using a roof-mounted DVD player and a great deal of storage areas.

There's also an abundance of automation around the Grand Voyager.  The sliding back doors are power-operated, since is the tailgate, and so are the tufted back windows.

Everything can be controlled by the driver's seat, which is quite convenient. {The doors can also be opened and closed remotely {with|using all|using} the key fob, helpful on rainy days or when one's hands are full. |} The integration of a Placing monitor display into the rear view mirror is also quite thoughtful - it's a surprise nobody else has thought of doing so. Quite clearly, the folks at Chrysler aren't resting on their laurels, but have continually added more and more convenient qualities to the MPV.

The only quirk in this otherwise remarkable MPV is that the entire steering columns, along with the stalks, are taken from a left handed drive car. This means the column gearshift is to the motorist's right, when in many instances it is run by the left hand. Aside from that, the Grand Voyager continues to impress, also maintains its title as the supreme MPV, if size and price were no object.
