In modern day parlance, once the Hyundai Genesis Car 2 Door expired at the 2008 North American International Auto Show, it almost rocked the house. The world had never seen a Hyundai like this earlier. For the first time in the new budget-car history, Hyundai wasn't carrying on the big guns, and were a little smitten about it, since the Genesis was prepared to compete on a global scale with the best luxury models, at a fraction of their price.

Since the South Korean automaker came from the U.S. market, back in 1986, it has emphasized value. Hyundai typically promised capabilities and features similar to those of significant competitions, however, at a substantially lower price. Now Hyundai is moving boldly upmarket, beyond the current Azera sedan, worth remains a drawing card. Like some other several any other  Hyundai models, the Genesis is available at just what the company calls"a much more accessible price point" compared to European/Asian competition.

2 powertrains are available: a Lambda 3.8-liter V-6 and an all-new Tau 4.6-liter V-8. Dealing with continuously variable valve timing, the V-6 makes 290 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque.  Running on premium gas, Hyundai's new V-8 produces 375 horsepower, combined with 333 pound-feet. With regular-grade gasoline, the V-8 makes 368 hp and 324 pound-feet. An Aisin six-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission mates with the V-6 engine, while the V-8 gets a ZF six-speed automatic with Shiftronic manual control.  Hyundai states the V-8 model can accelerate to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds. Fuel economy is dependent on the powertrain. The V-6 engine gets an EPA estimate of 18 mpg in city driving and 27 mpg on the highway.  Figures for the V-8 fall to 17/25 mpg.

Hyundai states the Genesis comes with a larger cabin than the 5 Series or even E-Class, but reduced body structure weight. Genesis also promises more interior volume than BMW's 7 Series. Constructed to a 115.6-inch wheelbase, the Genesis sedan measures 195.9 inches long total and stands 58.3 inches tall. Each dimension falls right in the center of the competition, in accordance with Hyundai. Trunk volume totals 15.9 cubic feet.

The Genesis suspension includes Amplitude Selective Dampers. Seldom bashful about contrasts to premium motorcars, Hyundai states that technology also can be used for Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz versions. many Hyundai versions, the Genesis has standard Electronic Stability Control.  An eight-airbag match includes front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, plus roof-mounted side curtain airbags for all outboard occupants. Every single Genesis halts with all-disc antilock brakes. Alloy wheels maintain conventional 17-inch tires with the V-6 engine, 18-inch for the V-8.

Inside, the soft-touch instrument panel comprises woodgrain accents. digital active head restraints.  Lexicon audio systems are available. Bluetooth hands-free mobile phone connectivity, XM satellite radio, and USB/iPod auxiliary inputs are supplied in each model. A power rear sunshade, rain-sensing wipers, automatic windshield defogger, and a memory system are included with the Genesis V-8.  Available at additional cost are these attributes as XM NavTraffic, xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights using an Adaptive Front Lighting System, along with a chilled driver's seat.

begin at $33,000 (including destination charge) for the Genesis V-6, escalating to $38,000 for its V-8 model.  Options include a navigation system with an 8-inch display screen, and a backup camera that utilizes the identical display to demonstrate a view behind the car. Eight ultrasonic detectors front and rear bumpers work with the available rear backup camera to find the proximity of objects while parking.

Anticipate a smooth ride nice pavement, and adequate relaxation on several rougher stuff. But specific undulating surfaces may yield considerable body movement. Steering feels somewhat mild but is reasonably accurate, with only a hint of decreased confidence from the occasional quick curve. Simple to push, the Genesis generally tracks neatly and remains put in its lane. Seats are very comfortably cushioned and closely fortified, supplying great neck and back support. Front headroom is ample, leg area sufficient, and elbowroom only somewhat limited.

Tested to a racetrack, the V-6 reacted nicely, but the V-8 is obviously exceptional for all-out performance - although hardly critical for all motorists. Resounding response yields a lot of passing power, and Hyundai's V-8 is at least as silent as the V-6. Brakes are stronger using their result may not be noticed in daily driving. On the road, the V-8 sedan feels somewhat smoother and better , despite less-ideal weight distribution.
