In modern day parlance, once the Hyundai Genesis Car 2 Door premiered in the 2008 North American International Auto Show, it virtually rocked the house. The world hadn't ever seen a Hyundai like this before. For the first time in the brand's budget-car background, Hyundai wasn't carrying on the big guns, and have been a little smitten about any of this, since the Genesis was ready to compete on a worldwide scale using the top luxury models, in a fraction of their cost.

Hyundai states the Genesis includes a larger cabin than the 5 Series or even E-Class, but lower body structure burden. Genesis also guarantees more interior volume than BMW's 7 Series. Constructed on a 115.6-inch wheelbase, the Genesis sedan measures 195.9 inches long and stands 58.3 inches tall. Each measurement falls directly in the middle of the competition, based on Hyundai. Trunk volume totals 15.9 cubic feet.

The Genesis suspension comprises Amplitude Selective Dampers. Seldom bashful about comparisons to superior motorcars, Hyundai claims that technology also can be used for Lexus, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz versions. A power rear sunshade, rain-sensing wipers, automatic windshield defogger, and a memory system are included using the Genesis V-8.  Available at extra cost are these attributes as XM NavTraffic, xenon high-intensity-discharge headlights using an Adaptive Front Lighting System, and a cooled driver's seat.

Tested on a racetrack, the V-6 responded nicely, but the V-8 is obviously exceptional for all-out functionality - though hardly crucial for most drivers. Resounding response yields plenty of passing power, and Hyundai's V-8 is as silent as the V-6. Brakes are stronger however, their impact may not be seen in every day driving. On the road, the V-8 sedan feels a bit smoother and better balanced, despite less-ideal fat loss.
