When the original Chrysler Used Car Extended Warranty premiered from the mid-80s, it established the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) as we know it today, a vehicle with eight or seven chairs that drives just like a car. It had been such a hit that it shipped all car manufacturers, for instance, Japanese and Europeans, back to the drawing boards to develop their own MPV versions.

Twenty five years on, with nearly every carmaker having its own interpretation of this Voyager, Chrysler has needed to continuously update its MPVs to keep a lead in the segment that it created. The current Grand Voyager is your second-generation model and has been launched in the late 90s. It had an outside facelift two years back, and this year it gets the radical'Stow n Go' chairs.

Flexibility has always been key to the allure of this MPV, but eliminating the chairs and finding a place to store it is an issue, particularly in the Asian markets in which folks do not frequently have garages. Ahead of'Stow n Go', the Grand Voyager had small castors beneath their chairs so they might be wheeled around, but they were incredibly heavy to lift from their car or truck.  The solution is for chairs that don't need to be lifted out, but entirely disappear in the floor.

Actually, the vanishing third row seat isn't a new thought the original'96 Honda Odyssey was a third row seat that folded and turned right into a well in the floor, along with the Voyager adopts this thought. However, it is the fold of the second row seats that's particularly clever. After five simple steps, along with the tugging of many straps and tabs, the whole seat literally disappears into the floor without a hint. This is even more impressive since the seat modification functions aren't compromised when upright, it may both slide and recline.

The key of course, would be to have a seat that folds into as compact a bundle as you can, and this is accomplished by having both swab and backrest of equal length. This ends in a rather low backrest to get an otherwise comfortable seat. This implies that for many adults, even the headrest has to be raised to keep it from cutting into the middle of their backs.

The mechanicals of this Grand Voyager remain largely unchanged with a torquey 3.3-litre V6 which makes it seem well-powered and comfy. Cruising is extremely effortless in the Chrysler, and there is an impressive absence of street - or - engine-noise. It is likewise exceedingly well-equipped with a roof-mounted DVD player and plenty of storage places.

There's also an abundance of automation on the Grand Voyager.  Both the sliding rear doors are power-operated, since is the tailgate, and are the tufted back windows.

Everything can be controlled from the driver's seat, which is very convenient. {The doors can also be opened and closed remotely {with|with all|using} the key fob, helpful on rainy days or if one's hands are full. |} The use of a Placing monitor display into the rear view mirror is likewise quite thoughtful - it is a surprise no one else has thought of doing this. Quite clearly, the folks at Chrysler aren't resting on their laurels, but have always added more convenient characteristics to this MPV.

The only quirk inside this otherwise impressive MPV will be that the whole steering columns, together with the stalks, have been taken from a left-hand push automobile. This means the column gearshift is on the motorist's right, when in many instances it is run by the left hand. Apart from that, the Grand Voyager continues to impress, also preserves its title as the ultimate MPV, if price and size were no object.
