When the first Chrysler Loaner Car Policy was launched from the mid-80s, it created the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) as we know it today, a car with eight or seven seats that drives like a car. It was such a hit that it sent all auto manufacturers, including the Japanese and Europeansback to the drawing boards to come up with their own MPV models.

Twenty five years on, using virtually every carmaker using its own interpretation of their Voyager, Chrysler has needed to continuously update its MPVs to maintain a lead in the segment that it's created. The present Grand Voyager is that second-generation model and was launched in the late 90s. It had an outside facelift a couple of decades back, and this year it gets the radical'Stow n Go' seats.

Flexibility has always been key to the allure of the MPV, but eliminating the seats and locating a place to store it's an issue, especially in the Asian markets in which people do not frequently have garages. This means the column gearshift is about the driver's correct, when in many cases it's operated by the left hand. Aside from this, the Grand Voyager continues to impress, and preserves its name as the ultimate MPV, if price and size were no object.
