When the original Chrysler Employee Lease Car Program was launched from the mid-80s, it generated the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) since we understand it today, a car with seven or eight chairs that drives just like a car. It was such a hit that it sent all auto makers, including the Japanese and Europeansback to the drawing boards to come up with their own MPV models.

Twenty years on, using virtually every carmaker using its own interpretation of their Voyager, Chrysler has had to continually upgrade its MPVs to keep a lead from the segment that it created. The present Grand Voyager is your second-generation version and was launched from the late 90s. It had an exterior facelift a couple of years ago, and this year it gets the revolutionary'Stow n Go' chairs.

Flexibility has always been crucial to the allure of the MPV, but removing the chairs and finding somewhere to store it is a problem, especially in the Asian markets in which folks do not frequently have garages. Before'Stow n Go', the Grand Voyager had little castors under their chairs so they might be wheeled around, however they were incredibly heavy to lift from their vehicle.  The solution is for chairs that don't have to be raised out, but entirely disappear into the floor.

Actually, the vanishing third row seat is not a new thought the original'96 Honda Odyssey was a third row seat that folded and turned into a well from the floor, along with the Voyager adopts this thought. Nevertheless, it is the fold of the second row seats that is especially smart. Following five simple steps, along with the tugging of many straps and tabs, the whole chair literally disappears into the floor with no trace. This is even more impressive since the chair modification functions are not compromised when vertical, it may both recline and slide.

The trick of course, would be to get a chair which folds into as compact a package as you can, which is achieved by using swab and backrest of equivalent length. This ends in a rather low backrest for an otherwise comfy chair. This means that for many adults, even the headrest needs to be raised to keep it from cutting into the center of their backs.

The mechanicals of the Grand Voyager remain mostly unchanged with a torquey 3.3-litre V6 which makes it sense well-powered and relaxed. Cruising is extremely effortless from the Chrysler, and there is an impressive lack of street - or - engine-noise. It's also extremely well-equipped using a roof-mounted DVD player and lots of storage locations.

There's also an abundance of automation on the Grand Voyager.  The sliding back doors are power-operated, since is your tailgate, and are the hinged rear windows.

This can be controlled from the driver's chair, which is quite convenient. {The doors can also be opened and closed remotely {with|using all|using} the key fob, helpful on rainy days or when the hands are full. |} The use of a Placing monitor display into the rear view mirror is also very thoughtful - it's a surprise no one else has thought about doing so. Quite clearly, the folks at Chrysler are not resting on their laurels, but also have added more convenient qualities to the MPV.

The only quirk inside this otherwise impressive MPV is that the whole steering columns, along with the stalks, are removed from a left-hand drive car. This usually means the column gearshift is about the driver's correct, when in many instances it is run by the left hand. Aside from this, the Grand Voyager continues to impress, also preserves its name as the supreme MPV, if price and size were no object.
