When the first Cars Similar To Chrysler 300 was launched at the mid-80s, it established the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) since we understand it now, a car with eight or seven seats that drives just like a car. It was such a hit that it shipped all automobile manufacturers, including the Japanese and Europeansback to the drawing boards to develop their own MPV models.

Twenty five years on, with nearly every carmaker with its own interpretation of their Voyager, Chrysler has had to continuously update its MPVs to maintain a lead in the section that it created. The present Grand Voyager is your most demanding model and was launched in the late 90s. It had an outside facelift two decades ago, and this season it will get the radical'Stow n Go' seats.

Flexibility has always been key to the appeal of the MPV, but eliminating the seats and locating somewhere to store it is a problem, particularly in the Asian markets in which people do not often have garages. Ahead of'Stow n Go', the Grand Voyager had little castors under their seats so that they might be wheeled around, but they were incredibly heavy to lift from the motor vehicle.  The remedy is for seats which don't have to be lifted out, but entirely disappear into the ground.

Actually, the disappearing third row seat isn't a new thought the first'96 Honda Odyssey was a third row bench that folded and turned right into a well in the ground, and the Voyager adopts the thought. However, it is the folding of the next row seats that is particularly clever. Following five easy steps, and the tugging of several tabs and straps, the entire chair literally disappears into the ground without a hint. This is even more impressive since the chair modification functions aren't compromised when vertical, it could both recline and slide.

The trick of course, would be to get a chair which folds into as compact a package as possible, which is accomplished by having both the swab and backrest of equivalent length. This ends in a fairly low backrest for an otherwise comfortable chair. This means that for most adults, the headrest needs to be increased to block it from cutting into the center of the backs.

The mechanicals of the Grand Voyager stay largely unchanged with a torquey 3.3-litre V6 making it feel well-powered and comfy. Cruising is extremely effortless in the Chrysler, and there's an impressive absence of street - or engine-noise. It is also extremely well-equipped with a roof-mounted DVD player and lots of storage places.

There is also an abundance of automation on the Grand Voyager.  The sliding rear doors are power-operated, since is your tailgate, and are the hinged rear windows.

Everything can be controlled from the driver's chair, which is quite convenient. {The doors can also be opened and closed remotely {with|with all|using} the key fob, useful on rainy days or when the hands are full. |} The use of a Placing monitor display into the rear view mirror is also quite thoughtful - it's a surprise nobody else has thought about doing this. Quite obviously, the folks at Chrysler aren't resting on their laurels, but have continually added more suitable qualities to the MPV.

The only quirk inside this otherwise remarkable MPV is that the entire steering columns, along with the stems, have been taken from a left handed drive car. This usually means the column gearshift is about the motorist's correct, when in most instances it is run by the left hand. Apart from this, the Grand Voyager continues to impress, also maintains its own title as the supreme MPV, if price and size were no object.
