And it didn't stop there, for the automobile's performance rivaled that of the glorious R8. It was clear BMW's M3 had eventually found a competitive rival: it was that the Audi RS 5.

The automobile wasn't only Audi's hottest new model at the series but also boasted of a greater version of this R8's 4.2 litre V8 engine. It now seems this is the fad by German automakers because it was just a few months after BMW had launched the sDrive 35iS, which was exactly the same as the previous sDrive but using a search engine. That however doesn't mean innovation has run fast in Ingolstadt, for the RS 5 has a freshly designed front splitter with larger air intakes and double tailpipes at the rear. Better than Audi R8?

The V8 in the RS 5 generates 444 horsepower, that is 30 bhp over the FSI unit in the Audi R8. This is felt at 8250 rpm with 318 lb.-ft of torque wrapped in at 4000 rpm. The car's acceleration in 0-62 mph is accomplished in 4.6 seconds before going up into an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph which can get to 174mph in case derestricted. The evidence is at the driving

For the first time, the specially reinforced DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) unit has appeared in an RS model.  This is the seven-speed S-tronic transmission, which only refers to 2 clutches, 7 speeds and quick changes. Another inclusion is Audi's all-wheel drive Quattro system which features a new kind of middle metering that sends around 85% of the torque to the rear axle and 70 percent to the front. During regular driving the RS 5 supply is 40/60 front to rear and you can turn the ESP system away completely. Even the RS6's Dynamic Ride Control adaptive damping system comes as standard and drivers may select between four driving styles plus a custom one such as in the A8. The car however doesn't come cheap at #57480, #5430 over a M3.
