And it did not stop there, for the automobile's performance rivaled that of those glorious R8. It was clear BMW's M3 had eventually found a competitive rival: it was that the Audi RS 5.

The show-stopper

The car wasn't just Audi's newest new version at the series but boasted of a better variant of the R8's 4.2 litre V8 engine. It now appears this is the fad by German automakers because it was just a couple of months after BMW had established the sDrive 35iS, which was just the same as the prior sDrive but with a reworked engine. That however doesn't mean innovation has run short in Ingolstadt, for your RS 5 gets a freshly designed front splitter with bigger air intakes and twin tailpipes at the back. More to that it includes 19-inch rims as standard with available options offering 20-inch rims in addition to carbon-ceramic brakes.

Greater than Audi R8?

The V8 from the RS 5 generates 444 horsepower, which can be 30 bhp over the FSI unit at the Audi R8. This is felt at 8250 rpm with 318 lb.-ft of torque wrapped in at 4000 rpm. The car's acceleration in 0-62 mph is achieved in 4.6 minutes prior to going up into a limited top speed of 155 mph which can get to 174mph if derestricted. The proof is in the driving

For the first time, the specially reinforced DSG (Direct-Shift Gearbox) unit has appeared in an RS version.  This is actually the seven-speed S-tronic transmission, which simply refers to two clutches, 7 speeds and fast alterations. Another addition is Audi's all-wheel disk drive Quattro system which includes a new kind of middle metering that sends around 85% of the torque to the back axle and 70 percent to the front. During regular driving the RS 5's distribution is 40/60 front to back and you'll be able to flip the ESP system away completely. Even the RS6's Dynamic Ride Control elastic damping system comes as standard and drivers may select between four driving styles plus a custom one such as at the A8. The car nonetheless doesn't come cheap at #57480, #5430 over a M3.
