The same as its predecessor the C-Type, the D-Type Jaguar sports car had been first|had been} built with the sole purpose of winning at Le Mans.

After rigorous testing, it had been discovered that the structure, fibreglass materials and resins weren't sufficiently strong to withstand the car's energy, and so the idea was dropped.

Back in February 1957, there was a severe fire in the Coventry mill which ruined five D-Types, together with fundamental jigs and tools, and damage to the manufacturing line.

Because of this, this indicated the end of creation of the D-Type sports automobile.

Jaguar for Sale

On the next hand market for Jaguar cars, an original 1955 D-Type in excellent condition was sold at auction at the US for $5 million in 2014. This represented the maximum price ever paid for a D-Type.
